Excellent feeder
I was looking for a feeder for my chickens and ducks and this sounded like it would do the job from the reviews I read.It was easy to put together and holds atleast a weeks supply of feed for 8 birds. The rats have gone almost instantly as there is no wastage and they cannot eat from the feeder which is brilliant. I was concerned my indian runner ducks would not be able to eat from it but they can and we had a pheasant get in the pen who would not leave for days as he could also eat from it!The food stays dry when it rains too. Very easy to wash out the peddle plate with the hose when necessary.Would thoroughly recommend.

The lightest setting is still too heavy
My hens are too light for this device. Even on the lightest settings. I have had to keep a stone on the treadle plate so that it will open when a hen stands on the plate. My hens are Orpington’s so not small bantams.I am disappointed in this product and wish I had saved money to buy the more popular and reliable brand.

Good product for the money
The treadle feeder was easy to assemble. It is quite sturdy and has not blown over in the wind (we are at the top of a hill and get a lot of wind!). It took a bit of time to train my 3 ladies to use it, but that’s the fault of my nervous hen not the feeder!! It feeds my 3 hens fine and I don’t have it top it up with food very often (which makes me wonder how much food the rats were stealing!!)

Good but I have made a slight modification
This seems like a good product at a fair price. Grandpa feeders are more than twice the price and probably not such good value. This arrived more than a week late. It arrived in good condition and was easy to assemble. I did not find any very sharp edges. There is a good amount of adjustment so that it will work for your lightest chicken or bantam (you can also fine tune this by adding a small weight to the treadle if you want). One problem that was evident as soon as the chickens started to use it was that the chickens like to flick a lot of food out of the feeding tray (I think with their beaks, not feet) - it seems like there is not enough of a lip on the front edge of the trough. Part of the reason for buying this feeder was not to encourage vermin so it is a drawback. I feed organic layers pellets from Mole Stores - these have a small pellet size and seem more palatable than the cheaper pellets but possibly these fall down into the trough a little more freely than the normal sized pellets. Also I had mixed a little corn in with the pellets and this I am sure contributed to the chickens flicking through the food to get to the tastier bits - I will stop this. As a DIY remedy I have fitted a 10 x 20mm batten to the front edge of the trough to make it deeper and secured this with a screw through the side of the bin on either side. I've also put the feeder on a board so that any spilt food does not go into the grass or mud. overall I am pleased.

Hen feeder works well, after the hens learnt to use it.
We had a cheap plastic feeder but found that we were feeding a lot of pigeons and blackbirds as well as our 4 hens.I took about 30 minutes to put the feeder together. I was concerned that our chickens would not get the hang of stepping on the peddle to open the feeder. For the first few weeks they did not feed unless i put a brick on the peddle to keep it open. Otherwise it worked well and we used much less grain feeding the wild life. Then after a couple of months the pigeons started to learn where the food was and we started feeding the wildlife again. So I took the brick off the peddle - and amazingly the chickens then seemed happy to use it as designed.Very pleased with the feeder.

Excellent looking feeder.
This feeder arrived promptly and is as described. It appears strong, but I hope that the rats which have been raiding our other feeders, do not manage to chew their way in round the tread area.My hens have no problem using it as I have another similar treadle feeder. My hens have never worried about the metallic clanking and it reassures me as I move around the garden, that the hens feeding ok.Only installed today so I shall be able to judge how it lasts in the spring.

Our chickens won't use it
Lovely company who sold it but our chickens just won't use it and we have persevered and followed a variety of tips.

Good quality, efficient delivery.
Discovered a rat hole under the coop in the early winter, so forced to spend on a more expensive feeder. It arrived Within 2 days. I’ve positioned it on a patio slab to provide a level stable site. Very easy to assemble...apart from a slight problem with the two split pins and as one dropped out after fitting ( so harshly I dropped a star).I kept my foot on the platform just to show the ladies how to work it...they were great and we’re using it all by themselves within a few hours. Perhaps my beauties are especially bright!
